Why? So that each of us can make up his own damn mind where to go from here. Right now I feel like I am in Mobil Ave.

This causes Frustration. Which is what we're seeing here on LQ for the past two months. Frustration causes Anger.

Mr. Volkerding obviously refuses to communicate even with the Slackware team members about what his remaining to do items are.

Final post by Alien BOB:

What Mr. Volkerding does not seem to understand is that his obvious refusal to communicate is damaging his reputation and Slackware's reputation in general.

I do sincerely hope he does have a check list of what remains to be done. If he does not - then we have bigger problems. Or if he wants to turn Slackware into a rolling release, then he should say so.

Positive Communication is Key to Success.

-----

PS: I think AlienBOB meant to write:

Mr. Volkerding is obviously stuck in time. And if he doesn't communicate, him being stuck will only get worse.
I think AlienBOB said exactly what he meant to say. "Unstuck in time" is a reference to Billy Pilgrim, a character in Kurt Vonnegut's novel 'Slaughterhouse 5'

https://www.bartleby.com/essay/Being...Five-PK7ZDZYTJ

Now, whether it is a fair comparison to make is another question.

IMHO Pat is taking his time and being thorough.

There's no contract issue at play. Just waiting for things to seem stable again (and it's close). I thought that things were ready to go with Plasma 5.22.x but then upstream decided to make 5.23.x the 25th Anniversary Edition and it seemed that most people here thought that we needed to wait for that... and then while waiting I took the detour into Python 3.10.

It's all looking pretty good to me again now, though.

It is good to hear that the publishing debacle is history.

It is indeed! Thanks for your tireless work, Mr. Volkerding. Slackware 15.0 will be another stellar release.

And there i wanted to add my yet another 2c saying:

nonononononoo

It will be ready when it's past at least RC3, and IIRC 14.2 had even the RC4, right?

So far Slackware has a stellar and untainted track record and reputation:

Frequent release cycle (RH) and calendar tied development (Debian/Ubuntu/many others) has nothing to do with quality and excellence.

I'm so glad Slackware isn't one of those run off the mill distributions.

14.2 had only RC2

Anyway, following the actual timing, RC2 is probably (I hope) the latest release candidate, which will probably end with plasma 5.23.5 on 4/01/2022.

Yep, also myself I believe that Slackware 15.0 will be brought to us by Ded Moroz (Grandpa Frost), not by Santa Claus.

I usually avoid these speculations, but looking into the eyes of The Great Pumpkin, whose thoughts may be shared by Mr. Volkerding, I see hope of a quick release and suggest November 27 would be an auspicious release date!

It won't take long to discover the accuracy of that bold prediction.

I am certain we will see it before the end of 2021. Exact date... ?

Depends on if PV cares about any particular date or just "when it's ready".

11/26 would be 1 year since the "light and the end of the tunnel" Patreon post, but that seems a little too soon.

I'm going to guess 12/15. Because 15.

Very scientific.

It depends how you interpret that date. In the US, 4/01/2022 is April 1st 2022. Elsewhere in the world, 4/01/2022 is January 4th 2022.

A problem which would be solved if everybody did it according to the standard: 2022-01-04.
