I think the software doesn't exist anymore
And no sign of life since 2007
Be careful it can be dangerously confusing to use such words in this thread. The same could be said about the distro itself with s/2007/2016 and that's not glorifying either :-(
Even our last hope from a week ago already vanished.

Is it what you call "no sign of life since 2016" ?

This is because some people incorrectly assumed that Pat would lock himself to a date that he gave a month in advance as a guesstimate. He's never been one to schedule a release, but always releases it when it's ready. That's no reason to give up hope.

Agreed! As you said Mr. Volkerding will release 15.0 when it meets his standard for excellence. In the changelog for RC3 he said that 15.0 is 99% frozen. I think that the release of 15.0 is a lot closer.
Code:
Wed Jan 12 22:04:33 UTC 2022
Good hello, and welcome to the third and final release candidate for Slackware
15.0. We're 99% frozen at this point and are mostly looking for regression or
other bug reports that might be able to be addressed before this goes stable.
So, probably a dumb question: Is there a need for this, rather than running clean-system after the upgrade?
It's about manually upgrading the Slackware installation from 14.2 to 15.0, not about using slackpkg.
Honestly, considering the megatons of changes between those versions, the usage of an automated tool would be, well... just looking for troubles. Big troubles. Troubles worth of Darwin Award prizes.
For example, I do not believe that there's an automatic way to upgrade from ConsoleKit2, pm-utils and so on, to elogind. But there are another trillion of examples of how the things could go south, 5 feets under.

And right that is an excellent opportunity to learn quite a lot of how a modern GNU/Linux system works. And why.
