Mr. Volkerding please release 15.0 as soon as possible even sooner
In my experience is ready for release. Just there are only annoyances. There is nothing I can't fix myself. In my memory some older releases were comparable less stable than recent -current. To make something perfect is road to nowhere. Or fulfill wishes all people here. You can't make happy everyone.
I don't expect to find Debian or RHEL here so I can call you for help. As I see as many years Slackware user there is no need to wait anymore. System is ok. There is nothing we can't deal with.
Some stuff can be fixed on the road to 15.1. From other hand I am really stuck on -current. Can't do what I want to do. For this I really need 15.0.
My only objection is lack of SBo admins and committers due version 15 arrival;
Other than that current seems peaceful.
Now there're only two person who only update packages are available while there were 3 persons who let you submit new packs..
But I'm still adding my 2c (AU, $0.015 US) to point out that the attraction of the stable versions is the fact that their reliability is pretty well bullet proof, not just OK (and 15.0 isn't ready until it's similarly bullet proof). There are use cases that place reliability above all.
I'm playing with -current for some things, but if I were still using any computers for business right now those PCs would be firmly wedded to 14.2 exclusively.

If you want you can wait for eternity for your bullet proof system. Whatever that means. But don't force the rest of us to wait. Perhaps your experience as Ubuntu user - well you don't want anymore to cook a meal, don't you?
As much as I may agree (to some degree) I'm not sure why this is being asked again.
Slackware 15 will be out between Thanksgiving (US) and Christmas - New Years at the very latest. There is really no reason for another of these threads until New Years arrives and we are still where we are.
Let's all just take a breath and have peaceful days until 2022 rears it's uncertain head. Enjoy life.

To me it means as stable as 14.2; we didn't have to wait an eternity then, and we won't need to wait an eternity for 15. It will be ready when it's ready.

I wasn't aware that I was responsible for the speed of release for 15. And I'm not a Ubuntu user - for some reason my browser is now showing as Ubuntu.

Well, at least a "Petition to BDFL" is way more fun than those "Is Slackware Dead?" threads...
BTW, you are his neighbor to known so precisely The Plan?

What you call a "useless" thread, is actually an important question for others.
What Mr. Volkerding could do to squash these kind of threads once and for all and get people like AlienBOB back on board, is to publish a ToDo list (a Check List) of what he wants to get done before releasing Slackware 15.0. Just to be clear - I am not asking for a time table. And maybe we could help by providing patches for and/or file bugs with upstream projects to make Slackware-Current stable for a release.
But there's one problem - upstream projects, except for a few, have abandoned the concept of a stable release branch. Most upstream projects just randomly tag a commit on trunk as a "release", but really alpha/beta quality.
And another problem is that many projects (like Ubuntu, Mozilla, etc.) "release" stuff on fixed dates. Ready or not. The code is "released". Which is the reason for low quality "releases".
The Kernel, Python, Apache Subversion and Slackware are examples of projects that have a stable release branch which is maintained for some period of time. With only security and bug fixes; no new features! This would really help distro maintainers a lot in my opinion.
