Sound on Asus all-in-one

Hello,
I'm a Linux newbie. I installed Elementary OS on my new Asus all-in-one PC, in dual boot with Windows.

The problem is that the audio, under Elementary, isn't working.

I tried to stop and restart Alsa but without success.

Can you help me?

Thank you very much

This one is off. If you expect to hear on the headphone jack, it's off.

I don't know what IEC958 is, but it's off, and it mentions playback. Try turning it on.

Try disabling this.

You may find the alsamixer interface easier to deal with.

You didn't change anything. Run
Code:
alsamixer
as root and turn all the volumes up. Headphone jack is still off as is IEC958 0 (whatever that is).

Hmmmm... sorry. Does it beep? What happens if you
Code:
 echo -e "\a"
?
Code:
lspci | grep Audio
? What program do you use to make sound? Have you tried mplayer?

Hello there!
It doesn't beep nor any other sound. I tried the system test sound and Chromium. Mplayer gives a skin error, so it isn't usable.

Typing
Code:
 echo -e "\a"
no results. Typing
Code:
lspci | grep Audio
the result is: 00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H HD Audio (rev 31)

Thanks again!

Skins are optional; I don't use one. mplayer gives more-complete error reports, why I asked about it. What other audio apps do you have? play? aplay? What does
Code:
lsmod | grep snd
return?
Code:
 grep snd /var/log/messages
?

The built-in audio chip of my computer started working erratically (It's 7 years old) so I bought a USB audio adaptor for $0.56 (on the Bay of e, from China) and it's worked since.

Mplayer doesn't open at all, because of that skin error... I'm using the default Elementary Player, called Music.

The USB audio adapter sounds like a great idea! I haven't understood if you have to connect external loudspeakers or if it is possible to use it as a new sound card (sorry, I'm really newbie, LOL!)

So what does it report?

You load all the audio modules you need - maybe more...

Portuguese? Do you know where your log files are? Run
Code:
 locate syslog
then grep snd on it and messages in the same directory. Perhaps the names are in Portuguese.

You'd need external speakers. I was confessing my ineptness as well as the possibility that hardware can fail. If you have a new computer you probably don't have my problem.

Hello!
Music doesn't show any error, it looks like working, but no sound at all...

The configured language on the system is Italian.

Quote:
Run
Code:
 locate syslog
then grep snd on it and messages in the same directory.
If I understood correctly what you are telling me, this is the result (I mean, no result...):
Code:
veruccia@veruccia-ZN270IE:~$ grep snd /var/log/syslog
Code:
veruccia@veruccia-ZN270IE:~$ grep messages /var/log/syslog
I was thinking that perhaps this OS doesn't have the driver for the sound port? I found some topics about this sound port not working, but they are about Ubuntu. For instance: https://askubuntu.com/questions/9985...d-audio/998530

That's a good sign.

I meant grep snd on messages, which should be in the same directory as syslog.
