i am a diploma student intermediate to the Linux world.I have a system with seagate hard drive.it is ST-3802110AS.I need to install RHEL-4 ES on the same machine.but when i am trying to install i got error message like "No hard drive have been found.....".What should i do to install linux on my hard drive. Is there any driver disk available to use as a driverdisk while installing. Can someone help me in this matter.plz
Do you know what type of SATA controller that harddrive is connected to? Is the harddrive connected directly to the motherboard? If so, you might check in BIOS to see if there are any options relating to SATA. Maybe look for an option for something like ATA compatibility.
did you find any solution for your problem?? i am having the same problem and i am unable to find suitable disk driver for it.. if it worked for u, pls let me know
i think the whole problem lies with the sata hatddisk, i guess ur harddisk must be a sata, and RHEL 4 doesnt support sata, they did solve the problem in update 1, so if u can get the RHEL 4 update 1 and install it, it will definetly recognize the harddrives. i bought another IDE harddisk and connected it alongside my sata, and it immediately recognized the ide disk and there were no installation problems. guess this should work for u, all the problem lies in its support to SATA.
cheers
Hi,
u are correct , I think this is problem with sata , sata drivers are avilable on net for respective hard drive .
while installation u can put these drivers at start and installation will work.
thanks and regards

Yes. I also bought a IDE hard disk and installed RHEL 4 ES on the harddisk.while installing linux i disablesd the sata controller in BIOS.it works fine.Somebody told that we have to recompile the kernal with sata drivers and we have to take the image of the harddisk to SATA harddisk. Is this correct.
Plz tell me the complete download path of RHEL 4 ES Update 2 or RHEL 4 ES Update 1.I can't find any downloadable images on the net.Plz tell me about how to take harddisk mirroring
How can i install update for my RHEL 4 ES. I see that Update 3 is available. From where can i get this update and i can i install update on my computer. Plz provide me the complete URL of the latest update so that i can download fro net. plz help me.
hi,
you can download the update 3 from the official redhat site. if u are a registered user, then enter ur login and passwrd and download it, or else, take the option of trying out the software package for 30days, for 30 days u will recieve updates and support from redhat, after that u wont recieve but u will be still able to use ur free copy of RHEL 4 ES update 3, but downloading the whole 2.3gb is a pain in the a**
