Gig Internet Service Running Under 90 MBPS

i just got a 2 year promo for gig internet speed for less that i was paying for 150 mbps, so of course i signed up for it. took the old equipment back, installed the new modem, got wifi setup without issue, both wired comps connected without issue. what i found is when i did a couple of speedtest is i'm only getting between 85 and 87 mbps. at first i thought it was the connection so i chatted with xfinity and they couldn't find anything wrong. i then proceeded to run speedtest on our phones and my roommates. on his comp i got 885 mbps, my phone 338 mbps, and on his phone 298 mbps. i decided to do one more test and booted into a live mint cinnamon, opened firefox and ran a speed test, got 993 mbps. i then proceeded to boot into manjaro and test my speed and got the same 85 to 87. whatever is limiting my speed in kubuntu has to also be in manjaro. any steps i can take to see what might be limiting my internet connection?

thanks

Presumption: the phones and computers with low speeds are using wireless connections, the 'puters with higher speeds are wired. True?
Code:
Wi-Fi Speed Chart
 	        Theoretical Actual
802.11b 11 Mbps 5.5 Mbps
802.11a 54 Mbps 20 Mbps
802.11g 54 Mbps 20 Mbps
802.11n 600 Mbps 100 Mbps
802.11ac 1,300 Mbps 200 Mbps

The Asus 970 does not have a built in wireless adapter and assume it is wired connection or more information is required. From the specifications it uses a Intel I211-AT LAN adapter.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards...pecifications/

Both Kubuntu and Manjaro are using a 5.2.28 kernel where Mint live is a 4.15 kernel. I have not searched to see what the driver is for your adapter but at first guess would assume something is broken with the newer kernel/driver.

Hopefully others are more familiar with the hardware.

yea the computers are both wired. i checked the specs and even went to intel and the lan chip is capable of handling 1000 mbps. the mobo in my roommates system really isn't much different than mine. thanks for catching the info i forgot. might see what kernel came with kubuntu and reinstall it to see what i get. manjaro i won't bother with cause it's going anyway.

scasey the phones are getting between 228 and 335 via wifi, so i don't know about that chart.

Not sure I understand yet if we are talking about wired, wireless or both on this.

Wired... The cell phone wireless speed is kind of superfluous information...

From what I read the released kernel version is 5.0. versus linux Mint 4.15. Some research might be necessary to find when the adapter was first supported see if there are any problems. You might have to downgrade to a 4 kernel or just switch to linux Mint.

i just ran the live kubuntu key and it's at 933 mbps. i may just do a fresh install cause i want to install 18.04 and replace 19.04 cause there are apps that i use that haven't been updated for 19.04. the kubuntu key is 18.04 and i feel they should have been by now.

Isn't gig speed nominally equal to 1000Mbps (maybe 1024Mbps)??
How is 933Mbps not a confirmation of that speed?

suggestion grow up and learn to read. i am not the one in the wrong here and you damn well know it. you chose to comment in a thread with out reading the post thoroughly. when one has to repeat something that is plainly stated it gets old real fast.
