Optical Mouse is jumpy

I just got my new system and installed slackware last night, and i'm using my optical mouse from my old computer, well in MSwin it works fine, but when i'm in xwin or the console it gets kind of screwy, its not too terribly bad but it just doesnt scroll smoothly at all. I'm not too sure but it feels as if mswin offers some sort of error correction which linux doesn't. It'd be great if someone had some sort of idea whats going on with it. O yah, its just some cheap $10 optical mouse.
