okay i got a nVidia RIVA TNT2...Pent II / 350mhz / 384 RAM (5 yrs old)...should i even waste my time trying to get this to run? if not...is it even feasibly possible? thanks...
I truly hate to say it, but it really isn't worth your tinme trying. Even if the game were to start up somehow, you wouldn't get any playable experience out of it. Sorry.
Okay, I am new to linux and it takes me awhile to sort things out in Linux. I bought a copy of Doom 3 and I would like to get it to work on my linux machine, I have an ATI mobility radeon X600 PCI express/64MB VRAM. I have a feeling that I can get Doom 3 to work on my machine if I just knew how. I had a look at the link that was posted before and I have to say that it didn't mean much to me at all. Is there a simple and I stress simple set of insrtuction to get Doom 3 to work?
Simple in the sense of:
1) Enter command
2) Enter another command...
I am looking forward to Doom 3 but if I can't get it to work then it might as well go back to the shop.
OK time to explain in newb sence (no offence). I need to know a couple things about your system to know how to say this.
1. What distro are you using?
2. What version of the kernel are you using? (to get this type "uname -r")
3. What version of the ATI drivers are you using (or do you even have them installed)? (type "fglrxinfo" it won't do anything if you don't have the installed)
Yay! I've been waiting for surround sound before buying the game. From the announcement:
Quote:
There are new GNU/Linux binaries for Doom3 on the ftp[1] and the BitTorrent tracker[2]. This build is compatible with the previous release, brings a number of bug fixes and new sound code. Alsa[2] and multichannel sound output are now supported.
No GUI changes were made in order to remain compatible with the first release, you will need to set some cvars on the command line to configure your sound:
set s_driver to best, alsa or oss. (best will just try alsa and fallback to OSS otherwise )
set s_numberOfSpeakers to 2 for stereo, 6 for multichannel sound ( whatever your actual number of speakers may be ).
For instance:
doom3 +set s_driver alsa +set s_numberOfSpeakers 6
will start doom3 using the Alsa sound backend in multichannel mode
This was announced on friday but I just noticed it now (and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else). The new files can be downloaded here. The torrent is here
Originally posted by cythrawll hokay, I am running Doom3 in slackware 10 with 2.6 kernal and fglrx 4.3 driver
I can get it to start up and looks great, but as soon as I get to a certain point in the game, it crashes my whole system .
I remember reading in another thread somewhere about this being a problem with the 2.6 kernel, not with DooM3. Supposed to be fixed with 2.6.10, though, so I'm willing to wait for the stable release....
Distribution: Ubunto and slowly switching to debian
