i'm noticing you are continually referring us this site as "they" and such like... feels something akin to an exhibit in a zoo... I hope things aren't going to remain this insular.

Of course not, we are 12 hours out of a relationship that most of us has maintained for a couple years at least. I sense a bit of hostility on your part however. If our arrival is a problem, let us know now, and we'll find somewhere else to go. Your first response to us was a sarcastic remark in fact, so I'm not assuming you to be neutral. Is there a reason you seem to be annoyed by our group? We have no plans to tread on your toes, and we are generally a very articulate and calm group. I do not see the problem, but I am not in your shoes so I may not see something that you do. Let us know what your apprehensions are, and we will try to address them. But we need to know if this is a permanent barrier or not early. We are not temporary kind of people, most of us stay put for years, not months.
i'm a pretty sarcastic person... if you do hang around you'll learn well enough. just my sense of humour. there's certainly no problem, just a little wary at first let's say...

williamwbishop,
Let me make it clear - you are more than welcome. I think you will find LQ to be the friendliest Linux forum around. Kewp has been modding General alone for a short while now and I think he is a little battle weary

Ah, no worries then. We tend to be a pretty open lot, we'll learn everyone's personalities soon enough. Caution I can understand. Indeed, we'll consider it a probationary period then. Please allow us the benefit of the doubt, and I think you'll not regret it. We are a fun lot.

I understand it completely, and we'll give no reason to tire him further. I spent two years handling a solaris board alone, and eventually burned out.
Originally posted by emetib hopefully it's not the same one. thanks for the link brothers.
I wouldn't think so...you know what is sad though? We put him on the ignore list for all that time, he posts his first on-topic response and they abolish the open forum. That is depressing.
Some info that might help you:
I'm Chad, and I'm an LQ Addict.
What that means is I've gotten over 1k posts, at which time you can choose between Guru, or LQ Addict. Once you hit 30 posts, you become a member. That's about it besides moderator, and root (who is just Jeremy, the site owner/administrator).
Also, you might see links under user's names (such as mine) for contributing member. Click it to learn about this. This is the only way you can "PM" someone on this site. Also, check out the "website questions and suggestions" forum for even more info on things that are probably slightly different on this site versus other forum sites you've posted at
Okay, to allay some concerns, if our little group would introduce themselves....a brief bio, likes, dislikes, etc...I think this might help to break the ice. So give over lads!
Me.
