uefi for years now. I mostly use refind as I am multibooting several different OSes from time to time plus win11.
Everything works fine with -current either the huge kernel or the generic + initrd boot. I usually dont bother with generic but I tried it just now and generic doesn't break anything nor does it improve my "UX" in any way other than i get to see insmods flash by, if that's a thing.
Installed 525.85.05 soon after installing kernel 6.1.8.
Boots and runs ok though I now see a new error...
bash-5.2$ vainfo
Trying display: wayland
Trying display: x11
Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
1 hour later:- Update... my bad!
added these two below and looking sort-of-okay now export VDPAU_DRIVER=nvidia
export LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=nvidia
I was wondering if this was the right thread to ask about dlss support with the nvidia driver as i have found that nvngx.* dlls are not included in /usr/lib/nvidia/wine that are needed
for dlss support in wine. Presently i am using proton to run battlenet for blizzards diablo II resurrected and was looking for support in wine because proton tends to be mainly for steam games
and said dlls that are needed are not included. Here is the complete thread : https://github.com/HansKristian-Work...ton/issues/940
Sorry for any confusion but i tried other threads and am not getting any help with this and also it might be a feature request with Slackware's nvidia driver (i am using sbopkg to install it in a
multilib setup)
After today update on current I lost wayland, if I have nvidia driver installed. it is checked with stock slackware 6.1.10 kernel and a backup kernel 6.1.7, has anyone else have this problem?
If I remove nvidia driver wayland appears in dispalay manager menu.
Is anyone else effected from this or I should search my desktop updates also?

After a heads-up from B Watson I have submitted fixes to both nvidia-driver and nvidia-legacy470-driver that among other things adds usr/lib64/wine to the packages. Should be in this week's SBo updates.

I'm having a pretty significant issue I can't trace down a fix for. I'm not sure when it started but I'm on slack-current, NVIDIA driver 525.89.02, GTX1660Ti, kernel 6.1.18-generic. Using one monitor on DP-1 and one on DVI-1. When switching from X.org or SDDM to any tty gives me maybe 1 to 5 seconds of video before the output from the card turns off and both monitors show no input. Switching back to X and the display is blank and I have to zap the xserver to get it back with CTRL+ALT+BKPSPACE. This does not always work. Occasionally when switching to a tty, I can login blind and switch to runlevel 3 and get video back.
I can not find a kernel/driver config that has any change. Tried setting kernel parameter to
Code:
vga=ask nomodeset
in elilo.config, to no effect. Added a modprobe.d file with
Code:
options nvidia_drm nodeset=1
with again, no effect.
Tried adding nvidiafb to initrd, but that just caused the system to not boot past loading the module and blanking the screen.
I am about at my wits end with this issue.
Edit: I can find nothing in Xorg.0.log, messages faillog or any output I have tried.
@moldavia Try using the nvidia 530.30.02 along with optimal properly working cables using grub on a uefi system. I have had problems with lilo in the past with vt switching and grub tends to
be more up to date. In my own honest opinion if a system supports grub and uefi it should really use it or you may have problems. Also i have had problems with sub-optimal cables as well. And
maybe if you can afford it you might want to upgrade your video card. You get what you pay for. It has also been my experience that nomodeset is not needed when you have the nvidia drivers installed
and nvidiafb may also cause problems as well i wouldn't use it.
