Gimp running slooooooooooooooooow

Trying to use Gimp right now and the paint brush tool is making it run like I'm on a 486 with 4 megs of ram. This is total BS. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

When I had Slackware 11 on this machine Gimp ran like it should but this is ridiculous.

Athlon64 3500+
GeForce 7600GT
1024MB RAM
VectorLinux 5.8 download edition
Gimp 2.2.13

I don't know what might be causing it. It seems to work fine on my box( which is not as powerful as yours), but I do have Nvidia drivers installed.

Have you by any chance updated the lot some time ago? there were problems with a new gtk2 package (I told them to leave it alone, but they wouldn't listen )

The problem lies in the XFCE's composite manager, I turned it off and Gimp ran smoothly.

I'll see about gtk2 and getting a different version.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's just that a broken gtk2 package was in the repo for a few days. If your version is the default one ( gtk+2-2.8.20-i486-1 , a Slackware package ) you're good for sure.
