Question Networking


Where do I edit the network mask and broadcast?

Solaris checks /etc/netmasks for that information.

I did that, but when I do a ifconfig -a command. I still see subnet mask B (ffff0000).

What entry did you put in /etc/netmasks? Also, this file is only read at boot time or when the rc scripts are run. It is not dynamic change.

I add the ip address with the subnet mask on the bottom (10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0). I rebooted the machine to see what happen. I still get ffff0000 but I want to get ffffff00.....very strange.

Do not put the IP address of the NIC in this file. The first field is the network address.
