Has anyone tried using rEFInd with the 5.19.0 ?
I use rEFInd. After upgrade to 5.19.0 I can't boot to Slackware. I think I will look afer grub2 install.

I can boot 5.19.0 on my Slackware64 15.0 system, but neither s2idle or hibernate seem to be working. Reverting back to 5.18.15 for now.

Then there is likely a bug in the efi stub. It should be reported.

I still have elilo on. (rolled back to 5.18.15.) How do we get the data the kernel people need?

Like bl0tt0 I also observed that power management doesn't work anymore. Idle power consumption went from 56 watts to 235 on my xen2.
5.19.0 is pretty broken on x86 it seems.
We probably wouldn't have seen this release for a while if Linus had used his regular x86 to compile kernels
garpu: Someone with a little bit of time available should open this on bugzilla (I have 36 hours of work to complete before weeks end).
They are usually very helpful people and will ask you for stuff they need.
Here's an example [URL="https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202441"/URL] (a vfs issue I reported a few years back).

Let's see what the end of my week looks like...I'm kind of busy for the next few days. (Also to see what our BDFL does. It could just be a slackware issue--I'm not seeing any efi stub issues in the kernel bug tracker.)

all --

Generic Kernel Version 5.15.59.kjh is running fine on my Slackware64 15.0 + Multilib LapTop.

Note that the latest NVidia Blob ( NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-515.65.01.run ) is running OK with 5.15.59 as well.

-- kjh

Code:
uname -msrpn: Linux kjhlt7.kjh.home 5.15.59.kjh x86_64 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11900K @ 3.50GHz
firmware ...: kernel-firmware-20220725_150864a-noarch-1
NVidia Blob : NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-515.65.01.run
VMWare Blob : VMware-Workstation-Full-16.2.3-19376536.x86_64.bundle

I did a little experimenting & believe it confirms there is an efi stub bug.

Copied renamed versions of both 5.18.15 & 5.19.0 kernels & initrds to the ESG. Updated the motherboard UEFI Boot Manager with efibootmgr:

5.19.0
Code:
efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -l "\\EFI\\Slackware\\generic_1" -L "Slackware_efi_stub_1" -u "root=/dev/sda2 initrd=/EFI/Slackware/initrd_1.gz"
5.18.15
Code:
efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -l "\\EFI\\Slackware\\generic_2" -L "Slackware_efi_stub_2" -u "root=/dev/sda2 initrd=/EFI/Slackware/initrd_2.gz"
I'm writing this from 5.18.15 after efi stub booting. The 5.19.0 doesn't boot and redisplays the BIOS boot menu.

Hoping Pat's kernels have functional efi stubs soon!

From today's change log,
Quote:
a/kernel-generic-5.18.16-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
a/kernel-huge-5.18.16-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
a/kernel-modules-5.18.16-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
..........
d/kernel-headers-5.18.16-x86-1.txz: Upgraded.
k/kernel-source-5.18.16-noarch-1.txz: Upgraded.
Dropping back to this branch until the EFI stub issue with 5.19 and elilo is
figured out. Might have to bisect that one. Thanks for testing!:-)

Personally, I haven't had a problem with the 5.19.0 kernel, but I use "good old fashion" LILO.

Got 5.15.59 on slackware-15.0 64bit with mitigations enabled, and also on slackware-14.2 32bit without mitigations enabled.
Works fine so far, one has standard nouveau driver and the other has NVIDIA-Linux-x86-390.154.run with nomodeset parameter.
Using the same GRUB loader for both of these systems.

From today's change log,
Quote:
a/elilo-3.16-x86_64-13.txz: Rebuilt.
Patched to disable the Confidential Computing blob for SEV-SNP, which
fixes booting a 5.19 kernel with the EFI stub enabled. If you use elilo,
be sure to either run eliloconfig again or manually copy (and rename) the
proper elilo binary to your EFI System Partition.
Thanks to PiterPunk.
Edit in: Now if we could fix the 7 second black screen when booting with LILO.
