If bluz5 requires pulseaudio, I think it is a time to switch to python3 also, because future blueman releases will require python3.
The difference being bluez does require pulseaudio *now* and not at some point in the future. Don't expect python3 this cycle, especially not now that we are in beta already.
All is well with sound so far here after the upgrade to 4.4.0. I'm running an AMD A8-7600 CPU on an Asus A88XM-E MB. Intel and Realtek sound modules get loaded correctly. KDE sound is stable, Pandora runs (pianobar), You Tube works too. Multiple sound sources can play simultaneously which wasn't working for me before the upgrade. I'm going to try this on my Kangaroo PC and see if I can get sound over HDMI to work.
Nicely done on the upgrade! Thanks to the Slackware Team!
Does having PulseAudio mean it will be easier to install Steam client and the games on Slackware?
Installing the steamclient and its games does not change a bit, but with PulseAudio you should have lots less issues with your sound configuration (microphone in particular).
I have not tested it yet (I am at work and my computers still need to be updated with the latest -current) but I want to check out tonight how things have changed.
People who installed my steamclient package may want to remove these three lines from the /usr/bin/steam script. If that works then I have to release an updated package:
Code:
export LD_PRELOAD='"'"'/usr/$LIB/libasound.so.2'"'"'
# Audio output goes to first "hw" device of ALSA
export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa
I have a Logitech G35 Headset which I use for games, listening to music, etc. I use TeamSpeak for chatting. With Slackware's recent move to PulseAudio, my carefully honed audio setup has gone south, and I cannot get it to work, no matter what I try.
I have used KDE's systemcontrol app to set the preferred device for everything to the headset. No luck.
I have tried pactl to set the default sink/source to the headset. No luck there, either. My games still won't output to the headset.
If there is a setting I missed, please feel free to tell me. Also, if there is information about my setup you need to know, don't hesitate to ask. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Regards,
Matt
P.S. I found the solution myself, and it was simple: I gave PulseAudio no other choice than to output to my headset. I blacklisted all other sound modules in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf like so:
I've been wondering about that. Why a VM and not a chroot? Or a docker, for that matter?
In addition to this, AlienBOB, are you using IDE or virtio for your virtual hard drive driver? I have found that using IDE is very slow compared to virtio. I run a lot of computer weather models on a virtual machine and have found that performance is the same. Just curious.
I see Pulseaudio made it's way in. Since I have been using it since GSB that is not new. We will see more articles on this. I have one system with apulse that works great no need for pulseaudio. Pulseaudio actually is just now after this many years is becoming stable.
I can't wait for the my skype voice how to. . great job slack team. Little reminder you will need to recompile pulse audio when adding stuff like jack2
really pulseaudio. what comes first chicken or the egg. for jack you want pulse installed for dependencies. Then pulseaudio like to have jack installed so it can build against it. Same with ffmpeg. What comes first lol. All I know is it will be stable.
wow disregard Pat made my life easy pavucontrol in xap Thank you
