Big Update to Current Today 2016-01-13
Installing it now. I ran my update script on a whim.
It includes pulseaudio and pavucontrol, as well as a new kernel. And it's a version upgrade. Code:
# cat /etc/*release* |
Better than that even, it is a genuine BETA of a version upgrade!
Code:
...enjoy a shiny new LTS 4.4.0 kernel and consider this 14.2 beta 1. |
Thanks for the correction. I'm really not very conscientious about reading changelogs.
If Pat included Pulse, that's a sign that Pulse is finally reliable. (evil grin) I'll add my thanks. Thank you, Pat and crew, for the distro of iron, that always works and never breaks. Of course, this means I'll have to reboot the computer to invoke the new kernel. Grump grump grump. |
Not a correction, I just wanted to be the first to use the "B" word this time! ;)
It is trickling into my local repo through my small pipes now, I'll have a fresh bare metal install sometime tomorrow. |

however, nice change! this should make plug in HDMI and put the current playing vid on the TV much more easy |
It's not just including Pulseaudio:

I really don't like that pulseaudio has been added, but if Bluez requires it now, there's not much to complain about I guess.
I'll see if it works out of the box this time. Edit: AlienBOB wrote about it and explained things better. :) Edit #2: It works perfectly. That's a first for me. I really like being able to control every program's audio individually now. Very good release. |

I hope that I will be able to continue PA free easily enough, or will just accept PA if it causes no other problems. I sure did like OSS back in the day... |
Is this a mistake? apmd does not seem to have been removed?
Code:
a/apmd-3.2.2-x86_64-3.txz: Removed. |

Pulse has improved greatly, but if Patrick says it's ready to go, which I'm also looking at how QT and KDE have support for Pulse, which could be useful, then it's fine.
Speaking of which QT5 and KDE/Plasma5 have support for pulse if I'm correct. As for JACK, doesn't JACK have a plugin for Pulse, or would we require an init script for JACK now? |

Next round of Plasma 5 packages for -current should all come PA-enabled. When? As soon as my compile box stops breaking. |
I always dread building QT regardless of what version it is 4 or 5. Even on my Quad-core with 4GB RAM with an 8GB swap at make -j5 it feels like it takes away enough time to make you question your life at times and say "hurry the f--- up dammit!" at the screen.

@ReaperX7:
Be glad that you don't have to build "Rigs of Rods" from time to time. Nothing about compiling for 2-3 hours, just to have it fail at 99 percent. |
