FTP not working

I just upgraded to AS 4.0 and have been facing weird issues:

Can anyone explain why my attempt to connect to my ftp server returns the following message:

220 xxx.xxx.com FTP server ready
530 Must perform authentication before identifying USER

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your server may be configured to look for an ident server on the client's port 113

Have a look at
http://grc.com/port_113.htm
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1413.txt

You probably don't want/need to use ident, just remove it from your ftp server config file.

Can you post your /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf?

How are you trying to connect? In other words... Could this problem be client related?

Are you trying to connect as root? I don't think vsftpd will allow this at all.

I do not think this is an issue of root login: if I understood right, dmkang does not even get the LOGIN: prompt. Tell me if I am wrong.

Having the configuration file will help a lot, you can only do so much guessing...
