Nope...no sound whatsoever because I have also been playing a couple of games and no sound comes from them either. My speakers are on, I went into Kmix, it has two tabs, one for output, the other for input, I made sure that there was no red light on for those two items. I am beginning to think it is my sound card because I had a real hard time to get my sound card to work in WinXP and now I am having a real hard time here as well.
This is a bit confusing, for sure. I'm gonna do a screenshot of my kmix on the output levels so you can see what mine shows as. Give me a few minutes to do it and create a page to view (heh heh, I am considering that hosting company that advertises her - they have good prices.LOL). Then you will know what to look for. If I get creative, I may fire up the Gimp and do circles and arrows...
LOL....go for it!! Besides, this will not only help me but this will also help anybody else with this same prob and let me tell ya, you are THE man!! You helped me so much here, I owe you!! hahaha
Sorry I was so long...was doing that whole install bit with XMMS....a lot to it, ya know....two different versions but got the newer version number it was showing.
Here is the result. Heh heh. The screenshots and pictures actually caused me to go over my allowed bandwidth about two weeks ago. Topcities is good, though.
BTW, the PCM slider has a green light under the tooltip. I shot that in there to be sure we were talking about the same thing.EDIT: the pic is now hosted at xmgfree.com and I have updated the link to show that

BTW, you can pay me back by doing two things: Pay it foreward, and watch the movie by that title. Every man needs to be so overwhelmed with "that was so goddamn honorable" emotions that he almost cries sometimes. That kid's the best!
That is exactly how mine is set up. There is a green light on the far left and the one that says PCM and they are maxed out.
BTW, I own the DVD of "Pay It Forward"...LOL but that is an awesome movie. That kid was the least selfish in that whole movie and ends up dying....how sad.
I usually rely on either "top" from CLI or KDE Syetem Guard. BTW, did you make sure to change the output plugin on XMMS from OSS (I think that's a Mandrake bug)
I got it changed....but I still do not have sound and I even changed from KDE to Gnome but still nothing has changed. This is being very strange. I made sure everything was unmuted.
