The way to create searchable PDF

Hya,

Question
How does everybody make searchable PDF?

Situation
I have several image PDF files. I am trying to make them searchable.

System
Debian wheezy. amd64

What I did
I tried ocrfeeder with several engines, cuneiform, gocr and ocrad. It works, but quality is not great. I can only find instruction in German...
Also, pdfocr.sh found here is tried, but not satisfactory yet. So, I am asking here

I tried for a few days and gave up. Never did get much success.

I use our network business class scanner/fax/copier. Dunno how Xerox does it, scan it and about 3 minutes it sends a completed pdf that is perfect so far. You'd think we could do that in linux.
