Yeah the dot is redundant however the results should be the same for arecord and sox.(force of habit sorry)

Still no capture.
You can hear yourself through the speakers.
It still seems like something is muted or something.
Is pcm muted?( most apps use this channel). Should still get values in sox however.

Im also thinking. Do you have a usb webcam attached with a builtin mic?

Could try alsaconf again.

The mic settings seem right. The only thing I'm seeing that might need looking at is Mic Select.

Code:
Simple mixer control 'Mic Select',0
Capabilities: enum
Items: 'Mic1' 'Mic2'
Item0: 'Mic1'
$ alsamixer -c 0

(tab to get to capture settings)
(probably some word there with Select and Mic. change it, to what it's not currently on, see if that helps.)
(Should list "Mic" IMO (not Mic1 and Mic2), as that's the actual capture channel as listed in amixer.)

That's what I see, the mic is red, but idk how to change it. I tried pressing "m" since that's usually what you're supposed to do, but nothing changes

cursor up and down should change a channels value. M turns it on and off, it's a toggle. Left and right move you left and right through items. F1 for help. ESC to exit. Various qwe hotkeys to adjust just left or right channels up with neighboring keys to adjust down. Basically cursor keys, "M", tab, and ESC are all you really need. In alsamixer.

That looks normal.
The mic select is in playback F3 not capture(in your pic).
Also you could try rebooting with the usb cam unplugged (for troubleshooting).

Oh that's not what I'm using for the mic, I'm using a logitech headset, plugs in like headphones

Did you try switching the mic in alsamixer? It is just to the right of mic boost on my computer.

Also the unplugged usb idea is because on my computer I needed to edit /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf to load in the correct order.

I would get no sound except from my usb cam mic.

Also does this headset have 2 inputs. 1mic and 1headphone?
Or does it only have 1?

I only have 1 usb port on this laptop, and the usb hub that I use isn't recognized on my computer, or I would give the camera a shot.

Only reason I can't use the 1 port is because I have my network adapter plugged in -.-

The headset has 1 mic and 1 headphone (sorry didn't see that)

There are two options for Mic Select: Mic 1 & Mic 2
Mic 1 is the one I can hear through the speakers, I can't hear Mic 2 through the speakers though
