Mandrake 9.2 on Presario 2100

For the record, I've just installed Madrake 9.2 on a Presario 2100 and everything works fine. INCLUDING PCMCIA!!! I've plugged in my Cisco Aironet 340 PCMCIA wireless card in one of it's slots and the install spotted OK. The only config I needed to do was to stop my wireless card clashing with the built in NIC for "Wired Networking"!

My USB memory stick was automatically mounted when I inserted it so obviously USB is working fine although I've not tried any other USB device yet.

The battery functions don't work and it doesn't even power off at shutdown. Am looking into that.

I've done the same, took some tinkering to get it to work, but PCMCIA also works, built-in network jack and the wireless works.

For the battery functions, you need to upgrade to the 2.6 kernel. As soon as I did that, ACPI worked fine. My battery monitor works, the button power-down function works, I have yet to try suspend/resume (I haven't had a chance to research this enough...I think Mandrake has a script or soemthing)

Right now I'm looking around to get the modem working (2110CA) and most seem to point to the linuxant drivers so I might try those later.

After that...its 3D acceleration in X...I have just read that someone got the latest Xfree working in Fedora and that 3D acceleration works...so there's hope

Hi tcaptain

If u got some info about 3D acceleration with radeon IGP 320 on the presario 2100 please let me know, because i'm under XP now and i'd like to play under Nux but i can't ...
i've read that the lastest Xfree version includes drivers for integrated radeon chips, and i hope that's true ...
Wait & see

Check out this link:

http://lisonbee.freeshell.org/linux/...ario_2100.html

It has a few details and a link about the X windows situation. From that I can understand it requires a patch for the 2.4 kernel (or the 2.6 kernel which has it inside) and then you need to download the CVS version of X and patch THAT and compile.

I'm working up the guts to try it....but I don't want to completely screw up my install.

pcmcia on RedHat 8.0 on presario 2100

First of all Cudos to Bruce!

This (http://home.attbi.com/~foglem/2105us.html ) site gives you 90% of what you need to know. Here is what is missing :

1. Start RH 8.0 install.

2. After the first reboot it will lock up at when it tries to load the PCMCIA. power off the laptop at this point, and insert RH install disk 1 and press <f5> for recovery mode.

3. Type linux recovery <press enter>.

4. This will try and detect the partitions that you just created. When you get to a command prompt type chroot /mnt/sysimage <press enter>.

5. Change directory to the /etc/rc.d/ directory <cd etc <press enter>, cd rc.d <press enter>. dir <press enter>

6. There are 7 directory(rc0.d - rc6.d) here that you will need to go into. Find the file S##pcmcia or K##pcmcia and rename them to S09pcmcia or K09pcmcia like this : mv S24pcmcia S09pcmcia. (stupid mistake) Linux is VERY CASE SENSITIVE so be very careful.

His site recomended changeing it to S01pcmcia. When I used that setting my laptop was VERY SLOW. S10pcmcia locked up my system and S9pcmcia worked perfect.

Good luck to those who need it.

Just a quick note.

I have gotten 3D acceleration to work with the IGP 320 using Gentoo and the instructions in the gentoo forums (either search the forums for IGP 320 or search other posts of mine on here...I posted the link a little while ago but had forgotten this thread)

It works great! The performance is good...been playing Quake3 and NWN without any problems (although NWN is still slower than Windows by a hair...something I have to fix I guess...everything else is much faster).

Also, apparently the same patch works for Xorg (since people are moving away from XFree86) but I haven't tried it yet.
