Yeah mendoza u probably can install Xp after installing linux , you'll have a dual boot in lilo or grub, and it may work fine - i did it before without problems

I finally found a way to keep my old XP installation . I used Partition Magic 8.0. I also found out that I had to remove the password to winXP before being able to partition it.
Now I have the (classical) ACPI and PCMCIA problems, but I will make a new post for these ones. Thanks again

I had a problem with partitioning my 40gb hd with partition magic (6,7,8) until I ran this cmd in dos mode
chkdsk /f
and rebooted (that's when the command is executed)
After that I could repartition my hd how ever I liked to.

Hope that helps.

Re: Mandrake 9.2 on Presario 2100

First you need defragment the disk. Then at the command prompt run
chkdsk c: -f

The -f option tells chkdsk to fix whatever it finds that need fixing. I had the same problem and I was able to resize no problem with one exception. I did have to go in and delete some large files (like my mandrake downloads) to free up enough space to resize smaller than it was originally permitting me to.

(if you are doing this on a laptop, you may run into another problem like the boot process freezing when loading the pcmcia support.)

Hello community, I have a problem with the installation of ACPI. I didn't know anything about the necessity "to patch" the kernel to allow ACPI working correctly. So I have installed ACPI and when I rebooted my laptop the boot procedure failed very soon because no DSDT is found in initrd. I have created both a floppy and cd bootable (using the command dd for the floppy and zdisk for the cd) but the laptop doesn't work at all !!! Any suggestion ? Thank you in advance for help

ACPI

I had the same problem. I even tried the patch stuff I read about the same places that you are. All you have to do is follow the instructions on this page.

http://www.pantropy.net/linux/laptop/tuxtop.html

Since you are not able to boot since your installation, you may have to reinstall and make sure that you disable ACPI during the installation. I used this page to recompile after installation and my computer is very quiet an power management works now.

In Mandrake 10 you don't need anymore to use a patch. The acpi support is included in the kernels.

Yes, by the way the official release went out today. The problem is that the ATI radeon 320M graphica card does not support 3D acceleration still ....

I found this page but I was not able to understand the right procedure.

You need to recompile your kernel & X , apply a patch and so on.

Read the AGP and 3D on 2.4 kernel sections , others sections aren't as useful as those i think
