Question how to configure sound in Mandriva 2010 on a hp g61-511wm

I just installed Mandriva 2010 power pack on a hp g61-511wm.i tried to play music and it plays but there is no sound, i tried to configure these sound by navigating to Configure Your Desktop -> Multimedia -> Select Audio Output -> Select "Internal Audio Analog Stereo". Click on Prefer to move it up above the HDMI Audio.but still no sound. on the other partion i have window 7 which plays the sound very well. i installed a vmware workstation where i installed Mandriva 2010 and the sound was very okay. i am wondering what might be the problem.

Try disabling Pulse Audio first. You can do that in MCC after giving the root password. Click on Hardware and Sound configuration. There is a check box to disable Pulse. You should see the correct driver listed in the box above the check box. Some flavour of ALSA is good.

See if that gets it going, if not, post back. Open a konsole and run the command '/sbin/lspci' and paste the results. That will show the sound card you have. The command is without the quotes.

From what I can find, it appears the driver snd_hda_intel supports your hardware.

This is your hardware -
Quote:
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
In a console run the command 'lsmod | grep snd' and post the results. I want to see if the module is loaded.

Something strange is going on here. The correct drivers are loaded. Have you brought up a mixer and verified you are not muted and the volume is turned up?

If yes, then do you know your speakers are working? Have you tried a set of ear phones in the ear phone jack?
