I think that is all of it now. I'm not sure what happened there. Sorry about that.

a) Backup any personal data.

b) Download either the Mandriva One 2009 (it's about 750mb) or the Mandriva 2009 Free (that's a dvd)

c) You use which ever one you downloaded and reintsall your system from scratch.

Let's start with a clean slate.
I'll start the download right now. Would you recommend the Mandriva One or the Mandriva Free version?

Mandrive One as it contains proprietary drivers and it's a quicker download. Use it in live mode first and check your card works correctly.

Oh and it's not a problem seeing you through this, it's a test of how much i know as well.

[alan@localhost ~]$ uname -r
2.6.27-desktop586-0.rc8.2mnb
[alan@localhost ~]$

As you have requested......... :-)

I had some connection errors following or during installation. Not quite certain what they were and I failed to write them down. Also, I had some "squash" errors upon the initial shutdown/restart following installation. I'm not sure that was about either. I can only assume it had something to do with these connection errors. Everything else "seems" to work ok though. Excluding the video card of course. I won't do anything until I hear back from you. Other than the errors mentioned here, we have an absolutely untouched OS to work with.

Hello

Can you take it from page 3 post #42 and post #44 up to the point where the script smarturpmi.sh has been run and has completed.

O.K............ "smarturpmi.sh" has been run and has completed as per your instructions. Scrolling through the threads seems smoother.

Great, remain as root. Type XFdrake then go to: Hardware--> Setup graphical server.

Click on Graphic Card go to the ATI section and choose Radeon 9500 to Radeon X1050 then click ok.

If you are offered the opportunity to install the proprietary driver opt for 'yes'

If all is successful, restart your computer. Check if the ATI control panel works and perform some of the other checks on page 4 #53

In the Control Center, do I need to enable gl support? I can't minimize my windows, for switching between tasks, while running under the current native support. Copying and pasting the text, quickly, is out of the question, unless you know another way. And something tells me you do...... :-)

Give it a try. What's the reason why you can't minimize? Are your border(s) missing? Is everything too large?

Borders are missing. Everything else looks fine.

So much for the smooth scrolling.... :-(

Try this: Alt & F2 then type: kwin --replace then click run see if your border(s) return.

I hope that was everything? I will switch back to native support and give that a try. Too, the alt F2 trick doesn't work. Konsole has not been installed. But I have created a shortcut, to the terminal, on the desktop. So all is well. It simply takes longer to access everything.

[alan@localhost ~]$ kwin --replace
bash: kwin: command not found

Compize Fussion shortcuts will not work in native mode either. I hate to retreat right now, but I need to wake up in 5 hours. I better get some rest. I will check back with the thread first thing in the morning.
