Asus A8V Deluxe on Linux

Hey there!

I'm intending to buy a new computer over the next couple of days and so far I'm still picking the components.... unfortunately my budget is pretty low so I have to think carefully if things are really worth it. Below's the preliminary specs:

Athlon 64 3000+ 800MHz 939 BOX
ASUS A8V Deluxe
Seagate 160GB SATA
Thermaltake 420W
LG 4163B
2x 512 MB 400 Samsung
GeForce 5200 XFX 256MB

To me everything looks good enough, apart from the motherboard, which I'm not quite sure about. Do any users here know this motherboard well enough to recommend its use along with Linux? I'm primarily going to be using Linux so this is an important point...

Thanks in advance.

Pulitz.

You picked a great motherboard for Linux

Just installed one, having it running Gentoo x86_64 with almost no issues. Needed to download the latest kernel patch from syskonnect.com to get the ethernet working; otherwise, a total breeze. Very stable and fast, highly recommended.

Glad to hear it hirschma! I've become somewhat paranoid about such issues after I bought an A7N8X Deluxe and sound support was, to say the least, lousy. After doing some searching on google, it seems this board has SATA corruption issues... have you encountered any such problems?

Also, how good is sound support? Some people seem to have microphone issues. The only thing I *really* care about is having a decent sound output, since I computer === music to me... =p

It's a shame having to worry about these problems, really... I'm sure things will somehow work (such as sound on the A7N8X Deluxe), but since I haven't bought the computer yet, I'd like the best possible support, without spending an arm and a leg.

My other choices are the Epox 9NDA3J and 9NDA3+... I'd prefer Asus naturally, but I hold no prejudice against Epox. did anybody have positive experiences on these boards?

Pulitz.
