Asus A8V Deluxe Mic Inputs with SuSe 9.2

I've been having some software and hardware issues with my new AMD64 system. I have an A64 3500+ with an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard, and I'm running SuSe 9.2 with KDE. The software issues are now solved for the most part, but I still haven't been able to get the mic inputs on my motherboard to work properly. I've tried all the mixing utilities, raising the mic level to max, etc., but I get on signal in the KDE sound recorder (or a Java app that's quite important for what this computer will be used for).

I read the posting faq, so here's the output of /sbin/lspci

Any help getting the mic inputs to work would be very much appreciated. I would rather not install another sound card, but I'd be willing to do that as a last resort (probably something cheap). As an aside, what are the "unknown" devices in that list? Have I not configured something I should have? I've only been using SuSe for about two days, and I'm very eager to learn more about it. I haven't changed any hardware configurations manually, everything is as it was after installation.

It's probably worth mentioning that I've been listening to some audio CDs with KsCD, and they tend to skip quite a bit from time to time. I would quite like to know what the unknown devices in that list are, too.

I have the same motherboard wth an AMD 64 3800+ on suse 9.2 and have no problems with the mic.
Are you sure the mic is not turned off?
