Unhappy Rhct failed

Hey,

Got my results back for my RHCT.

I passed the compulsory section I.

On section II I got a 59.3%. That's 10.7% off. Almost there.

Redhat took a WEEK to get me my results, and I had to call them repeatedly to get them because they FORGOT to process them.

Jerks!

The test was annoying because they left off a few things I knew how to do really well, and emphasized a number of odd ball things.

I can't post them here, but let me warn other test takers that you really need to make sure that you can do every test topic in every single kind of way.

Also the wording on the test sucked! The language was NOT clear on a few of them where I lost points. I wished I had gone to the test giver for clarification.

Another thing is I have a fairly good idea where I lost points, but I'm not totally sure because they don't tell you afterwards. Pretty harsh.

Also the test is a little biased because it seems to favor the people that take the class vs. the people that self study (like me). In the end you know it all or you don't.

I'll get it next time!

Well that is annoying, but it does happen everywhere. But even then, a week (as in about 7 days) is a really short time; in a lot of places you'll have to wait for results for several weeks in a bad case. A few days is very short time.

But they aren't supposed to ask what you know, but test your knowledge---best was if they could ask you what you dont't know, thus finding out that you don't know enough. The purpose of the test is to check what you know, so the result you get is completely up to you--failing means you just have to learn more It's not something you buy, but something you earn..

Sure. That's the reason you're taking the test---to be able to say that you know. If you don't know, why would you be entitled to get the prize?

This is something that bugs me too, in general, that people don't know how to write important things clearly. But since the newspapers and such are all full of it, why would anybody else bother? Still, you said it yourself---you should have asked. If you didn't, there's no use to cry about it afterwards..just be glad that you learned something new for the next time.

Good luck for it then! After that little ranting you're probably better off, and if you think where you went wrong, you're good to re-study those areas and be wiser next time. Remember that failure is the mother of learning.. So thumbs up for your next, hopefully the final try!

I disagree...

I took the test and passed the first time, and I did not take the class. And I self studied...but it's exactly like you said...In the end you know it all or you don't.

Know that you know what's on the test, you will be better prepared next time.

If the instructor dropped hints then, yes I agree...that's pretty messed up...

When I took the test it was DEAD silent...

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience...

That being said...I _know_ you can pass without the class...I know because I did it :-)

Yeah I almost did it on my first shot. I missed it by 10%. I took a few bad beats on the test also.

How did you study? What materials did you use?

FWIW I self studied and I passed the first time...

All I did for study is use jang's book...

http://www.amazon.com/Certified-Engi...7656520&sr=8-1

And the Red Hat Docs...

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/#RHEL5

That's it! I basically just used those two and I passed without taking the class on the first time...

Just curious what you were using for study...
