It means that the internal list of where Slackpkg should look for updates has itself been updated to list the location of 14.2
In other words, a text file that ships with 14.2 now lists the mirrors that will hold 14.2 packages. That suggests a known list of mirrors, which suggests that someone is looking to transfer images to some servers soon...
Its always been my SOP to upgrade my drive when a new version is released ever since I had to roll back from Slackware 11 when I couldn't enable the touchpad. Anyone thing this is a decent deal? http://smile.amazon.com/SanDisk-Plus...rds=2.5%22+ssd
Upgrading the hard drive when upgrading the OS is a good idea. It's been my habit, too, for about ten years. The old hard drive (bootable operating system intact with the old config and software) gets left in the computer as a secondary drive for few months, so if there's something I forgot to copy over it's easy to do so. Eventually it gets taken out, wrapped up, labeled, and put in a drawer. Mostly they're just "backups" at that point, but I've occasionally installed one in a different machine to get it up and going immediately.
It's about time to start saying "are we there yet?", yes. The last few ChangeLog updates have been heavy in bug fixes / security patches and seeking a worthy 4.4.x kernel and not so much "new hotness". That implies to me that the journey to 14.2 is nearing its end. I'm sticking by my prediction of late July.
I hope it doesn't take that long from RC2 to stable! I'm hoping it happens before Memorial Day weekend (28-30 May for those non-US folks), so I can take my extra time off and upgrade my computers! I'm already getting a new range (stovetop/oven combo) delivered on the Friday before, so I'm hoping to keep the newness going after I install that
