vim froze my pc

I wanted to try typing 'vim' in slackware10, I had xmms playing some music and my computer froze for a good couple of minutes, I laughed because its the first time Ive ever froze slackware.
I use XFce and I right clicked on the desktop > run program > then typed 'vim'

What made my PC froze? I know that vim is dependent on bash but I thought it would automatically open a shell and start vim, but I guess not.

I am curious to why it froze.

I'm running Xfce on Slack 9.1. Activate the 'Run in Terminal' button to run vim in its own terminal, works just fine Without activating the button, no terminal is opened for vim, but it runs anyway in the foreground, pushing Xfce and X into the background. Ctrl-Alt-Bspc killed my X server and I was able to startx just fine. Run 'vim &' still loads vim without a terminal, but X works just fine then, but you have to open a terminal to kill vim.

Best to run your console apps (like vim) with the "Run in Terminal' button clicked.

Sorry, but I can't get my PC to freeze, except for the damn intermittent lock with the screensaver. Happened again this am.
