the other day, i decided, having installed rxvt-unicode, that my system now had pretty much all unicode enabled software (exception with Zsh, but that's of minimal annoyance).
However, whenever i start a graphical app (gaim, firefox, even xfontsel) i get Xlib error messages.
for xfont sel
Code:
Warning: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
for gaim/firefox
(copy and paste isn't working, so these are hand typed)
Code:
(app:number): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib
(app:number): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot set locale modifiers
this also means that i cannot use the "highlight, middle click" method of copy and paste between the "unicode" apps, and the Xlib errored apps, this is INCREDIBLY annoying.
i thought perhaps it was my locale, so i tried to set locale to en_US.utf-8 (if it's going to supported, surely US english will be??) still the same.
set to C or my old locale (en_GB), no problems. works like a charm, it's the unicode.
i got a patched copy of the x packages (with support for DXTN copression/decompression) off a firend, i rebuilt those, wondering if the problem was that he hadn't had glibc i8n support.
Nope, still not working.
Does anyone have any ideas? or am i going to have to ditch unicode? The X version is 6,8,2 so it's hardly too old to have unicode support.
Slack version is slack-current. terminal is rxvt-unicode (lovely piece of kit apart from that). WM is fluxbox. 2.6.11.10 kernel.
Any help would be much appreciated. googling didn't come up with much, unless i was looking for the wrong thing.
thanks very much
