Yes, that it does. Wasn't expecting it for another 2 or 3 weeks.

Still no RFE2 support in the 5.10.2 RTL88_8821CE module. The module gets loaded and all, but no wireless link in /sys/class/net. Had to build 5.4.85 with the tomaspinho rtl8821ce code added to drivers/net/wireless/realtek.

I bought two wireless USB adapters, different models and makers, BUT both driven RTL8192EU . I can see network, I can see the routers, I can try to connect to them, and they both glorious fails.

Believe or not, they both work perfect with Windows and Android x86 . Not with Linux too, those few flavors I use.

Disturbing message in dmesg

Code:
[ 4.245410] udevd[225]: starting eudev-3.2.9
[ 4.456559] udevd[256]: failed to execute '/lib64/elogind/elogind-uaccess-command' '/lib64/elogind/elogind-uaccess-command /dev/sr0 ': No such file or directory
[ 7.009093] udevd[685]: starting eudev-3.2.9
Seeing this on the last few updates to Slackware64-current
Including today's Tue Dec 22 20:45:03 UTC 2020
Happens both in a Qemu virtual machine and bare metal install
only with the generic kernel
First appeared with 5.10.1 kernel continues with 5.10.2 on current

The device /dev/sr0 does exist and is usable at login
Thought maybe it is a timing issue
Possibly command is running before device is created

Tried to follow rc.d files but it makes me crazy

Everything seems to work fine, I just don't like "FAILED" lines in dmesg
Anyone else see this or am I a corner case?
TIA
John

Thanks to teoberi pointing me to a previous post by rworkman pointing to a post by gegechris99 showing to blacklist in /sbin/mkinitrd
Code:
LIBUDEV_BLACKLIST="\
  ipod-set-info \
  iphone-set-info \
  check-mtp-device \
  check-ptp-camera \
  udev-configure-printer \
  rules.d/60-openobex.rules \
  rules.d/73-seat-late.rules \
  rules.d/85-regulatory.rules \
  "
All is fine now
Thanks
John

Code:
commit 8353d30e747f4e5cdd867c6b054dbb85cdcc76a9
Author: Chiawen Huang <chiawen.huang@amd.com>
Date: Fri Sep 25 10:54:55 2020 -0400

drm/amd/display: disable stream if pixel clock changed with link active

    [Why]
Vbios uses preferred timing to turn on edp but OS could use other
timing. If change pixel clock when link active, there is unexpected
    garbage on monitor.

    [How]
Once pixel clock changed, the driver needs to disable stream.

Year 2020, Round 77.

Another batch of updates has been scheduled for release on Christmas Day, Friday, 25 December 2020, at approximately 15:00, GMT. If no problems are found while testing the release candidates, they might be available sometime on Thursday, Christmas Eve (depending on your time zone).

The details:

5.10.3-rc1, with 40 patches, http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/k...2.2/05897.html

Edit in: It looks like the above will be the only update this time around.
In Santa's bag will be several ARM/coresight and USB patches, a few f2fs tweaks, one patch for ext4 and a few other goodies.
Merry Christmas!

The (latest) tomaspinho rtl8821ce works - at least for me - fine with the 5.10.2 kernel using dkms / dkms-install.sh

You, of course, need to blacklist the rtw88 8821ce kernel module.

The problem is somewhat hard to describe, but basically when I type, every 10 or 15 keystrokes the keyboard would appear to be “frozen” for maybe a second: even if I continue typing, nothing would appear on screen during that second, and then everything I typed would appear at the same time. (It may not sound like a big deal, but it is actually very annoying in a terminal.)

It seems to happen mostly in X terminal emulators (xterm, urxvt) while some other graphical applications (for example gVim) are completely not affected. So I doubt it is actually a keyboard driver problem, and I rather suspect something in the pty layer, but that’s about as far as I can guess.

Does anyone know of some significant changes that have happened in kernels ≥ 5.5 that could explain the issue?
In case someone runs into the same problem and is looking for a solution:

The problem is even weirder than I initially thought as I realized it only happened when the terminal window is displayed on the internal LCD monitor of my laptop, not when the same window is displayed on my external HDMI-connected monitor.

It still happens with the newest 5.10.2 kernel.

However:

It seems to be specifically caused by the modesetting X.org driver, which I was using instead of the xf86-video-intel driver because the latter did not allow hardware acceleration to work on my machine. Switching back to the xf86-video-intel driver immediately solved the “keyboard” problem (which actually had probably nothing to do with the keyboard at all…), and luckily enough, the latest version of that driver (20201215_a511f22c) available in -current also solves the hardware acceleration issue.

Another one bites the dust. An HP laptop with AMD A6-9255, Radeon R5 Stoney Ridge, locks up with a blank screen during boot. Deactivate vga console, switch to amdgpudrmfb, forever blank. Had to turn off the power and boot with the 5.10.2 usbboot.img, mount and chroot, then install linux-5.4.85 with https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw88.git for the rtl8723de wifi. Just for fun, since I was in a 5.10.2 shell, modprobe rtw_823de did not create a link in /sys/class/net even after invoking /etc/rc.d/rc.udev.

A diff between the 5.10.2 and 5.4.85 versions of ./drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/amdgpu_drv.c resulted in over 680 lines of differences. Rather than analyze all that to figure out what they did to break amdgpudrmfb, I'm staying with 5.4.85 on that laptop in my render/mpi farm.

Try this patch against 5.10.2:
Code:

Just applied the latest slackware update with kernel fixes. It doesn't solve the bluetooth problem, and introduces more udevd issues...

I believe that you are booting with generic kernel.
How did you generate the initrd.gz file? Please post command.
The boot udev error messages point to missing udev files in your initrd.gz file.
You can check what is included in your initrd.gz file by browsing directory /boot/initrd-tree. In this directory, you should find lib/udev/libinput-device-group and lib/udev/.libinput-fuzz-extract. If not then, I strongly suggest that you use this command to generate the command that will create the initrd.gz file for generic kernel 5.10.2:
Code:
$ /usr/share/mkinitrd/mkinitrd_command_generator.sh -r -k 5.10.2
