I'll give that a try. But I tried running up the first ISO image I downloaded in qemu but it didn't seem to work either - it started to boot, got partway through and crashed. Dosen't seem to work on any other system either x.x .

I am not sure if I understood you well, but you should give a look at the md5sum of your iso's... I had same problem, but after I checked out, i realised it was corrupted (not same md5sum's).
In any way, if you cannot find a "reliable" ftp server along with your ISP (but I am sure you can), always it is worth to buy the DVD directly from Pat, a.k.a. Slackware Store...

Yep x.x mine are corrupted it seems but in the end that's what I decided to do, I bought the slackware dvd !
