Sound: how to switch from headphones to speakers?

how could i change from my speakers to my headphones and from speakers to headphones? or how do i set just my microphone to the one on the headset??

i'm running Slackware12 KDE with usb logitech headphones.

thank you.

Try alsamixer, unmute microphone and other things what you need. Then alsactl store if you wish to save config. Simply plugging your headphones should turn off your speakers.
