The configure tool shows that I am 'partly' connected in that it shows siginal strength in green but I noticed that there is no entry for IP address.
Am I suppose to know this and enter it?
In LMDE, I see the IP as 192.168.2.10 and other addresses. Do I need to enter this stuff?
Thanks for any help,

Well I don't know how close slax is to slackware but you should be able to get some useful info from ifconfig, wpa_supplicant (for wpa connection) and dhcpcd.
ifconfig wlan0 up
wpa_supplicant -iwlan0 -Dwext -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0
After starting wpa_supplicant you will need to run dhcpcd in another terminal.
Replace wlan0 by whatever slax is using for you iface.
