Seriously though, no one has mentioned sbopkg in this thread yet.
What I recommend to the OP is to checkout the following:
I.) slackpkg (For managing *official* Slackware packages in your system).
- read /etc/slackpkg/slackpkg.conf
- edit /etc/slackpkg/mirrors
- visit http://slackpkg.org
- USE YOUR blacklist!!!!!
Real quick, to get you off the ground with it here's a few steps to follow, and in this order:
Code:
# slackpkg update
# slackpkg update gpg
# slackpkg install-new
# slackpkg upgrade-all
# slackpkg clean-system
II.) sbopkg (for managing software from SlackBuilds.org)
- First, play around a bit with pkgtool - it's already installed as part of your base operating system
- Now that you've got a feel for that, sbopkg is very similar in look and feel, so visit http://sbopkg.org/ and have at it!
III.) Dugan has an excellent page on getting slackware doing all those double spinning backflips you all hear us talking so much about - hint: it's in the signature line of his posts
IV.) Gene also has an excellent primer - updated to focus strictly on Slackware 13.1. That resource is located
HERE
I hope that helps
