automatic pakages update in slackware


Hi all

I heard a wile ago about a sscript that can do automatic update to the pakages in slack. It said that it was buit especialy for it and it was running using crontab and the slackware-current directory on ftp.

Dose anybody know abut something like this?

Here's how I do it. You can replace the ftp site and version from one on the Slackware site. Get back if you need anything. Mail yourself or as I have it (root), log in as root and use mutt (or mail).

Maybe my suggestion is not to technical, but you could try using swaret to do that

hmm, IMO i don't recommend automatically updating packages. Its a bit too dangerous, especially if you're updating the kernel and the script doesn't automatically type 'lilo' at the end... (note: i didn't look at the script).

There are other dangers too..

One of the earlier suggestions linked to a way of using wget. The only problem with that, is that it doesn't delete the old packages when Pat updates a version level.

A better method is to use rsync. Try searching for that on the site and you should find a couple of usable suggestions.
