Your ethernet card is well known and the driver (module) is loaded, good..

You want to connect to internet with the ethernet card, right ?

DHCP or static IP in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf ? Also maybe see in /etc/resolv.conf if all is ok

Hmmmmm. Something fishy is going on. I have no /etc/rc.d folder, and my resolv.conf just says "Slackware search".

I am trying to use DHCP as I am using cable.

I ran netconfig, and did the following

1. Enter host name = localhost
2. Enter domain name = slackware
3. Setup IP address = DCHP
4. Set DHCP hostname = Enter/blank (maybe this is where it's falling apart)
5. That's all

If you don't have an /etc/rc.d folder, then the installation can't be complete....

If that's *not* the case, then issue

dhcpcd eth0

and post....

cheers,

I don't think localhost is fine for hostname name, you can put any name you want here, it will be the name of your machine..

You must have a /etc/rc.d directory, I don't know how your system could boot correctly without it

cheers,
Thanks for the help.

Code:
No subnet declaration for et0 (no IPv4 addresses)
** ignoring requests from et0. If this is not what you want, please write a subnet declaration in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment to which interface et0 is attached**

Not configured to listen to any interfaces!
I must admit networking is not my strong point.

So what is appropriate for the domain name? Please excuse my ignorance.

Sorry mate, I have a rc.d folder, really showing what a newb I am now.

Code:

# If you don't have an interface, leave the settings null ("").

# IFNAME[interface] to the interface's name. If IFNAME[interface] is unset
# or empty, it is assumed you're configuring eth<interface>.

# comprehensive set of examples.

Yes, they are: this single line is all you need:
Code:
USE_DHCP[0]="yes"
However, in order for DHCP to work, you must be running a DHCP server on the network which is properly configured. Usually a Cable or DSL router also works as a DHCP server.

Quote:
No subnet declaration for et0 (no IPv4 addresses)
** ignoring requests from et0. If this is not what you want, please write a subnet declaration in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment to which interface et0 is attached**

Not configured to listen to any interfaces!
It looks like you ran "dhcpd et0" instead of "dhcpcd eth0". Two small but significant typos, see if you can find them. And when you do, try running the command like this, to add some debugging output:
Code:
dhcpcd -d eth0

The hostname is not the domaine name, it is the computer name (the system's host name), AdiLQ123Computer is a valid name for hostname
Leave the domain name as default

Try:
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 start
