Question about Slack and KDE

I've been using Fluxbox most of the time, but Im curious about KDE 3.0, so Im going to install it. But before I do, I have a question. Should I use the pkgtool to install KDE? And if I use pkgtool or any other method, should I uninstall the previous version?

The way i did it:
First I made a full backup of /opt/kde and the relevant ~/.kde dirs (just in case).
Then I un-installed KDE2.2.2. Then I compiled KDE3 from source. It works very fast, but it took a very long time to compile the whole bunch.

So it's all about what you think is important:
1) faster & optimal KDE
or
2) easy install

Ok here is how i did it

I removed all kde* and kdi* packages then install all kde3.0 packages with installpkg * .

It works like a charm

Aussie:

Yes it worked, I downloaded the instructions and now I have KDE3 up and running, it was easier than what I thought. Thanks a lot.
