I pretty much just arrived at Slackware and what I found here is just awesome. It's the first real KISS distro I came across. Arch isn't KISS in my view, they keep changing and breaking stuff and it gets ever more complicated with every change.
What I really like about Slackware is that it seems to be a distro put together by a team that doesn't care about politics. From my yet limited impression I really trust the Slackware team to stick to rational and technically sensible decisions, no matter what FUD hell breaks loose around them. That's just awesome!
Keep this attitude up, guys. It's really refreshing in these days!
PS: I only pity that I didn't find Slackware earlier. Back in '96 my dad bought me a Red Hat CD box as a birthday present. I wish it had been a Slackware CD/Floppy set.
To add to/reiterate what people have said above: thank you all - Pat, Eric, the rest of the team and indeed the Slackware community at large, which (despite unfortunate threads that sour the mood) has helped me innumerable times!
I love Slackware, and though I periodically play around with other distros, I always come back in no time! Could not be happier! :-)
Forums tend to be biased towards problems, and I'm as guilty as any of happily enjoying the care-free reliability of Slackware without properly saying thank you!
I have huge respect for the team, including in their choice of direction to go in. Slackware has served me well, and I entirely trust you to make the right decisions in the future.
Slackware was the very first Linux distribution that I tried, way back in 1995. I didn't consider it particularly "hard" for a newbie back then, but those were the days when moderately motivated people were still prepared to read
I'll never forget trying to learn Slack just coming from DOS, holy crap. My wife used to holler upstairs, " what in the world are you doing up there?" I would yell back down STUDYING. These days I still use the word when I'm on the computer, now that I'm retired she comes home from work and asks "and what did you do today?", Studied!
Of course that's only when I'm not working on the house. LOL
Again A gigantic THANKS to all involved in the Slackware OS.
I am proud of the way Slackers have responded in this thread. Most members here on LQ Slackware are generally helpful and courteous to fellow members in need of assistance. We do not always show our appreciation to the Slackware team members.
I have been a member here at LQ for almost 10 years (joined Jan/2005). I got very tired of usenet and wanted information or the means to get intelligent transfer of information without foul verbiage/slang/cursing/whatever.
Thanks guys for openly supporting a wonderful Slackware team!
Don't forget;

I would like to say thank you very much to Pat and the Slackware crew.
They really do an amazing, top quality job releasing Slackware, SW64,
ARM, multilib. Thank you for this powerful workstation distro and
amazing learning tool
I would like to thank Pat and the team who make Slackware happen. After falling into Linux from Windows, I have used almost every major or less major distributions out there and none of them has given me so much peace in computing and more importantly total reliability and consistency as in 'This results into this always'. Never has been the time that I have to change or do something and keep my fingers crossed because if it happened once, it will happen consistently for the foreseeable future.
I have been slacking since 13.37 and currently on 14.1. I introduced my blood brother to it too and he is a sort of guy who likes bling, flash, clickety-clickety but to my amazement he kept on using 13.37 once I taught him the basics of administering the system, installing the packages, etc. when I am not around. And he went on using the system by his own for over an year. It is an indeed great achievement.
I really admire the persons behind the distributions and they must be very sane. A big thanks for the wonderful computing experience.
I joined LQ a little over 10 years ago when I started using Slackware. I recall at that time veteran LQ members were very kind to me and helped me to set-up my sound card. Let us keep supporting the operating system that we love. Please consider purchasing a subscription at the Slackware Store.
Open acknowledgement of appreciation to Slackware Team.
My 20th slackware anniversary will be next year. I've learned a lot, used it day to day and am hugely grateful to Pat, Eric, Robby and all other contributors and slack builders.
