Exclamation Kernel can't find designated root partition

Hello to all who read!
I recently installed slackware 13.37 on my pc's external hdd (sdb) and I have hit a bit of a problem:
Whenever I try to boot to slackware, I get a kernel panic message saying "Invalid 'root=' command, here are the available partitions: /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2"
I checked the lilo config file and it pointed to /dev/sdb8, I also tried to boot it with grub.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

You may need to add a rootdelay option to the kernel to allow USB/Firewire devices to settle:

Hi,

Welcome to LQ & Slackware!

I do suggest that you create a new thread for the other problems. That way each will receive exposure for the new topic. Plus be sure to use the LQ Search. Other LQ members might have had the same issues.

You can use 2handband’s tutorial

Two good references Slackware® Essentials & Slackware® Basics

The sticky ' So you want to be a Slacker! What do I do next?' may help.
