Install hang

I downloaded the install.iso and burnt it to a cd. I downloaded rawritent and made the boot disk bare.i and the root disk color.gz, but now when ever I try the install -- 5 or 6 times, it gets up to the actuall install point -- after you chose the type (full, newbie, ect.) and it looks like its installing but when I switch to the other console (alt+F2) and use the df command it shows that hdc (the hard drive being installed to) is still empty. It then gives me an error message:

Chmod: /mnt/tmp: No such directory or file
Chmod: /mnt/usr: No such directory or file
/usr/lib/setup/setup: cannot create /mnt/etc/fstab: directory nonexixtant

Any clue as to why its doing this?
Any help would be appreciated.
