@hitest I just sent P.V a cheque to the adress you are quoting , because i don't trust any web holding account details. I didn't bother him with a return address , so the only way I know that he gets it is when the cheque is cashed.

If & when that happens at least I can confirm he hasn't moved/changed address.

@dugan of course "financial" is only one element of "support" . if i was a marketing guy i would consider other elements very important.

Such as documentation https://docs.slackware.com goes a very long way to address this. Possibly the most important sentence is this : " Who can help? Anyone can, from your uncle Ed who tinkers with Slackware on his old laptop to Linux gurus with development level skill sets. All are welcome." .

Why? well what is obvious to one person may need explaining to another person; the only person who can really understand what it is causing a problem for someone to understand something is another person at the same level.

Possibly the less knowledgeable is a bigger user base than the top geeks. Thus for sustainability you need to look after the noobs.

Another element is image; if i was in my first steps going from Windows to try Linux ,would i consider Slackware worth a go. Somebody on some forum once replied to me "slackware is for experts" basically saying to me, not for you less than IQ 150 oinks - what supercilious nonsense.

I counted circa 92 contributors on docs.slackware how many registered users i wonder are there active at any time in a year on slackware forum ?

Linux questions of course addresses question and answer but those that like a low learning curve, tellogin the whole story not just text bytes , really like being spoon feed with nice laid out text , that starts off easy. Thus if you really want to support slackware, a little time helping out on docs.slackware.com wouldn't go amiss.


There are sub forums ARM and installation , do you think a greenhorn sub forum might be of help?

I suggest that we get this thread back on topic. There are several ways that we can continue to support Slackware. I pledge that I will pay for my download of Slackware 15.0 when released, and I will continue my Patreon support of the best operating system on the planet.

Please link to any attacks I have made. My only posts are about LILO not working because of a drive having an invalid DeviceID. I contribute every month via Patreon and want to see the distro do well. But having an illegible logo on products you're trying to sell? At least offer the old logo as an option.

The old Slackware Store had a no-compete clause on the products they sold, which included the normal logo. The flippy logo (which I never cared for either, to be honest) was not sold by the old Slackware Store; therefore Mr. Volkerding could sell it on his other site. There's a discussion about that in one of these threads.

Now that the old Slackware Store has gone the way of the great auk and the dodo, I assume that Mr. Volkerding will offer the normal logo in the near future. (For some values of "near")

The classic logo is available. Drill into the menus and all shall be revealed (hoodies! zip up hoodies! colours! (I would expect that the logo is reversed (in dtp/screening context) on the black stuff))....
