how to start and shutdown slackware faster?

Hello, I wanted to know if there is any way to make slackware start faster and especially to shut down faster.

When it starts, a screen with letters scrolling very fast appears, as it happens in other operating systems, but in eslackware it is slower.

And when it is turned off, many letters scroll and it takes longer to turn off than to turn on.

Nor is it that it takes a long time to start up and shut down, it's not that I lose sleep, it's in case something can be done without damaging the system, I've searched on google and I haven't found how to do it.

I use full installation of slackware xfce 64 bits.

Thanks.

Greetings.

do you have some numbers? How long does it take at all? What kind of hardware do you have?

Hello, I haven't calculated it, but if I calculate it, it's nothing scandalous, but for example linux mint starts faster and above all it shuts down instantly and slackware doesn't and it caught my attention.

Hardware is an i7 and 8g of ram, so it's fine, that's not why, slackware works fine and any distro, but I'd like to see if it's possible for it to start up earlier and, above all, to shut down faster.

I am with generic kernel 5.15.63

Now I'll do some time calculations and tell you.

I have already calculated it. Once grub appears and I select slackware, it takes 32 seconds until the screen that asks for a username and password appears.

And to turn off, once I hit the off button, it takes 19 seconds to turn off and in linux mint xfce the shutdown is almost instantaneous.

What I said before, slackware works wonderfully, I'm super happy with it and it doesn't bother me these days, it's in case there's any way to improve it.

NaboHipersonico --

Do you boot RunLevel 4 or 3 ?

And if RunLevel 4, are you counting the time until the xfce LogIn Dialog appears ?

Thanks

Hello. I boot into runlevel 4 and count from when grub appears and select slackware until the screen asking for login and password appears.

Three questions:

1) How often do you boot up and shut down?

2) How much faster do you expect it to take?

3) What do you plan to do with the time that you save?

You are sure that Linux Mint and Slackware are installed in the same kind of hardware? True, the Linux Mint has systemd, BUT it's not that faster, compared with SysV init of Slackware.

Does not matter so much how much verbose is a Linux distro boot, but the storage matters. The SSDs usually gives much better performances on boot or shutdown, and not only.

Anyway, what the heck of i7 you have, when me one with a Pentium G2120, DDR3 memories and a lame SSD I get a console login on around 5 seconds after hitting enter in GRUB2 screen?

And I talk about a desktop PC with socket 1155, yours which socket have?

Yes, they are on the same hardware on a new ssd a sansumg evo 870.

The ram is ddr3.

If it takes 32 seconds from when grub comes out and I select slackware, until I get the screen that asks for the username and password, I think it's because many letters come out, let's say many processes at startup, which may not be necessary , don't know.

Mine is an i7 sandy bridge at 3.2ghz.

It sounds like network timeout to me, something you start at boot is waiting for something remote to respond..
Not aware of anything else in Slackware which adds 20sec to boot, and that machine should boot in 10sec.
In perspective, one of mine is dual core with 4G ram and it's done in 9sec from cold boot to XDM.
Post your "dmesg | tail" it might show some clue/evidence of this delay.

The nvidia binary module's not part of Slackware install so.. not a Slackware problem?
That said. DNS should be up before NFS starts, but apparently this is not the case because "Link is Down" right before NFSD starts.
