Hi all,
Posting here as it seems like something that may inspire people to donate or help find a sponsor!

Some exciting news - I have just finished updating slackware.uk with a new search feature.

You may yell, "that doesn't seem very exciting!", but the excitement is shadowed by the usefulness that this feature brings.

It is now possible to search areas of the mirror (such as a cumulative archive) for a specific package and version, or indeed any other file type. Searches are relative to the directory you are currently browsing on the server - so if you're in the absolute/ directory and search for "firefox", you will only see packages matching that word from within the absolute/ directory (including all sub-directories). You can drill down with as many search terms as you like.

The search facility supports basic globs - anything you could pass to the locate(1) command, which is used on the backend for search results. There is up to a 30 minute delay on the freshness of the results - this is due to the locate database only being rebuilt twice an hour.

All in all, I'm quite chuffed with the result - I hope people find it helpful.

Whilst I am here; I am still looking for sponsorship and/or donations to slackware.uk.
I have not had any responses to my call for suggestions of sponsors; which I have to say is a little disappointing
But, if you happen to know a company or organisation that may be willing to sponsor some of the server renewal costs, please do message and let me know.

I appreciate everyone who has donated to the gofundme campaign so far, especially Joel Parker who donated a full 10% of the campaign goal! Plus those that have donated via other means thus far - every little helps!

Cheers

Cool

The search tool is snazzy. I will use it in the future!
