That seems like a nice feature for anyone like us which are used to have different text consoles on ctrl-alt-f1 to ctrl-alt-f6 and different X displays on ctrl-alt-f7 to ctrl-alt-f12.

But the dynamic starting of new sessions initiated by the screen saver is useful also for people not very familiar with the different virtual consoles. When they come to a screen locked by someone else, the will be able to start a new session to do what they need, and when they log out the console will return to the previous virtual console with the locked screen.

But what if they don't log out and also leaves the machine with a locked screen? Well, then those people need to learn how to switch between virtual consoles. Unfortunately, in practice, most of those people instead start yet another session of theirs until the limited number of virtual consoles have been occupied.

regards Henrik

Condolences on your user training woes. Last I had to deal with similar, the resolution was to force reboots over weekends alongside updates. Best of luck.

If I boot to pure (non-X/-Wayland) console/terminal/shell (tty) and startx, am I using a DM and if I use XFCE would it be a pretty light one or can I use a lighter one?
