Is that nobody has an AMD card or nobody has any problem with those ? ? ?

Have both AMD and Nvidia cards on different machines at home and at work.
Nvidia is usually a shitshow where I have to download/install the proprietary binary followed with obligatory workarounds to use it when required...
Whereas with AMD/ATI it usually works right out of the box and no dramas... win!

The AMD drivers "Radeon PRO Software for Enterprise" mentioned in the OP are for specific enterprise hardware and do not cover all AMD GPUs. For most AMD GPU users on desktop computers, the Adrenaline drivers are more suitable: https://www.amd.com/en/support and https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/re...ed-linux-20-50

One of the reasons I dropped Nvidia for AMD Radeon when Slackware-Current hit kernel 5.4.x (now 5.10.x), was for the opensource amdgpu stack. No more wrestling with Nvidia. The new guy maintaining Nvidia packages for Slackbuilds.org (SBo) is doing a great job AFAIK! (I maintained Nvidia on SBo for a long time.) Thus, I find no need in most GPU applications for AMDGPU-PRO. The only bit that is missing is OpenCL. Mesa's Clover implementation works poorly, if at all. I created an amdgpu-opencl package stripping out the OpenCL bits. See https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ng-4175672690/

AMDGPU-PRO also includes vulkan libraries. So far, there hasn't been a been a need for those here. Slackware includes vulkan-sdk, and Valves' Steam client takes care of the rest. Should vulkan be needed, the open source AMDVLK is here: https://github.com/GPUOpen-Drivers/AMDVLK

So far I am pleased with the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (Navi) and RX 590 (Polaris 30) with the switch to a nearly open source stack, the performance in Steam games, and some light GPU Ethereum mining. Besides the closed vs. open nature of AMDGPU-PRO, AMD's blobs are built for a few specific Linux OS releases. Performance on Slackware is not guaranteed.

I for one welcome a spot to have all issues AMD on Slackware discussed.The AMD management hasn't made things easy for linux users over the decades but devs have been writing good stuff since about 2007.

indeed. As my post mentioned, amdgpu baked into the kernel and Mesa is spiffy, but there still is a bit more that needs doing. It is nice that AMD is not only open sourcing the code, but actively subbmitting patches.

That is wrong since AMD has had Linux drivers for many years and continues to provide them. In fact, they just released the 20.50 version for RHEL/CentOS, Ubuntu, and SLED/SLES just over a week ago (22 MAR 2021). I've done work in the past to convert these mostly binary releases to Slackware packages, but the performance differences were minimal (and many times poorer than the open source version), so I stopped working them back in 2017. For -current users, kingbeowulf has been using those proprietary Linux drivers to provide decent OpenCL capabilities with -current.

It have KDE 5.21.3, Firefox 87, VLC, and LibreOffice 7.1.2.2 by default. Is Perfect !

The amdgpu-pro driver is from AMD is not a community project. It is made by AMD developers and most of it is provided as closed source binary packages. The kernel amdgpu driver is a community project, however, a good chunk of the contributions to the kernel driver are made by AMD developers.

Your information in your original post is simply not accurate. AMD makes Linux drivers and have for decades. They make a proprietary one and within the last 5-10 years, they've contributed heavily to the open source one. Users are able to use either one (although, if they aren't on one of the distros that AMD provides packages for, it definitely is not very easy to use the proprietary drivers). You also say you talked to Lisa Su at the Vladivostok forum. Lisa Su is the CEO of AMD (and has been since 2014) and she is either painfully uninformed of the drivers made by her company while trying to speak as a subject matter expert or the person you're talking to wasn't actually Lisa Su (I'm going with the latter).

As for the rest of the last post, I have no idea what you're rambling on about. You talk about UbuntuStudio, Skype, Microsoft, Windows 7 & 10, VLC and then you link to an Nvidia card on a thread about AMD drivers on Slackware. Can we keep this topic about AMD drivers and Slackware?
