UNresolved and Fixed issue thread marking

the 0 reply thread notification was a good idea. but a side effect of it is that once even 1 reply is given, it's ignored after that. this wouldn't be a problem if that 1 reply fixed it but if it doesn't then after 2 replies (i.e. the author's reply) everyone/most don't bother reading it.

since the original poster usually checks back for reply, there should be a field to mark if a thread/tech problem has been resolved or not. and maybethose can be added to the 0 reply rss feed. ofcourse, a moderator may be required to set it to resolve if the author ignores it or the problem/argument deviates to another topic.

this would also help searching too (looking for the solutions). and the super gurus here can search for unresolved threads.

an icon displayed next to the number of replies would be nice. (so it's either Yes, No or not a question)

im adding a poll to this thread so ppl can decided how good or bad an idea it is.

yeah, something like that. i noticed it when i came here.

though not all threads are questions. so U / A / ' ' (blank) but for all other forums as well. u mean 'answered' like the issue is 'answered'/resolved coz that's the main thing.

This has been implemented in this forum for quite some time. In theory it sounds good, but it just doesn't get used and has some shortcoming beyond that.

Well, I've always liked that this feature. But like Jeremy and trickykid expressed their views in my thread, I have to agree with them.

You can find my thread in this forum itself. It's titled something like Thread status

The only way I can see getting round this is to email members if the thread isn't responded to within 2 weeks asking them to mark it as answered or still unanswered. I'm not sure what people would think of this.

if the ppl here feel it's a good idea and think they'll be responsible about it then i guess it can be done. we'll just have to wait and see (votes...)

I agree abs - I like the feature... now that I've found it.

I don't think it gets used much because it's only available in one relatively infrequently used forum in one condition. For instance, the edit button is on everyone's post all the time even though I can only edit my own posts. (I sometimes hit 'edit' by accident when I mean to 'reply', even.) Whereas I'd only see the 'answered' button a handful of times and I've never noticed it before. I heard it mentioned once - probably early on LinuxLala's thread - and looked and didn't see it. It was only now that I reread both threads and hunted down a thread I'd started in this forum that I finally found it.

If it were fully integrated board wide, mentioned in the usual docs, and maybe had a checkbox next to the 'Submit Reply' button in the 'newreply' view saying 'Is this post an acknowledgement your issue has been reolved?' and people could just check it and hit 'submit', it'd probably get used a lot more. Or even better, just add a fourth button - 'Submit Reply' and 'Submit Reply and Mark Resolved'

And then I could see it being extremely useful. And as I think LinuxLala said on the other thread, having it marked resolved won't stop me from looking if I'm interested anyway - and *will* encourage me to click on 'resolved' threads when I'm looking to get help and clicking on 'unresolved' when I'm trying to give help. As is, I can't tell them apart and it's frustrating to click on repeated dead ends on a search and so on. 'Search Resolved' would be a blast.
