Vid card solved, now this:

No more hangs but since the vid card replacement it keeps repeating this
message:
hda: timeout waiting for DMA

..over and over and over
I see DMA and IRQ available in BIOS, turned on and off PNP OS, auto detect hard disk...

First off I would disble the ide-dma for the time being until you can find out what the cause is. It may be that your hdd does not support DMA transfers or that your motherboard/drive controller combo isn't playing nice. Post some hardware info for us and we'll try and see wassup.

possibly a flakey ide cable, try to use one of the udma cables if you can
