Seeing when you installed your distro

Hi,

I was just wondering if there's a command or some file that can show you when you installed your OS. I googled for a bit but didn't find anything. I also tried looking for modification dates of files but they pointed me back to 2003. Way before my last format so that can't be it.

I don't think there is going to be a particular file you can look at. Some dates will be from when the file was developed and compiled onto the installation cd, etc. You just have to remember when you installed it unless you've never rebooted, then the uptime would tell you such information.

I think it's going to depend on whether your distribution does a build or an image install.

My SUSE 9.3 created all the /etc directories when I did the install. It also created a /dev/cpu directory and subdirectories at that time.
