Ubuntu 14.04 - Incredibly slow boot without network

Hello everyone,

i have installed 14.04 server on a notebook and i have configured it to play slideshows on an external monitor (via fbi framebuffer image viewer, it hasn't X installed)

Everything works well but when i unplug the network cable the pc takes a lot of time to boot.

Re-enabling boot messages i see that it takes almost 3 minutes searching for the network... but the cable isn't even plugged.

Waiting for network configuration...
Up to 60 more seconds for network configuration...

If i plug the network cable it boots smoothly (it takes the address from a dhcp server)

Is there a way to disable waiting when the cable isn't plugged or to wait only for let's say no more than 5 seconds?

The /etc/network/interfaces is:

Code:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
Thank you in advance.

Configure a static ip and then it won't wait for the DHCP server to fail several times before it boots.

That's an ubuntu issue. You use to be able to change the wait time in the inittab file but they've moved some stuff around to confuse you. In the /etc/init/failsafe.conf there are two lines. One says waiting for network connection and beneath it say sleep 40. After that it says waiting 60 more seconds and sleep 59 beneath that. You can change those two values to shorten the wait time rather than statically setting your ip(especially if it's a laptop that you'll be using on random networks).
