Can't start httpd server on fedora core 5

Hi,

I want to start a httpd server that will run locally (127.0.0.1). my FC5 functions as a bridge with no IP address.
I used the commands "chkconfig httpd on" and then
"service httpd start",and then I get "FAILED".

any suggestions?

thanks!

hello ,
Before the [FAILED], it may gave you a warning. Please look into this.
Check your /etc/hosts file.
it must be 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost(localhost=your host name)

Set it correctly. Then go for
service network restart
service httpd restart.

Hello,

thanks for your answer. it didn't work, though.
I Checked /etc/hosts. it looks like that:
127.0.0.1 linux-bridge localhost.localdomain localhost

then i did
service network restart, and i got -
shutting down interface eth0 OK
shutting down interface eth1 OK
shutting down loopback interface OK
bringing up loopback interface OK

and then
service httpd restart -
stopping httpd FAILED
starting httpd FAILED

Do you got any others ideas?

Good,
Please post the result of "tail -10 /var/log/httpd/error_log" here. IT will be useful to Fix the issue for me., if you want.

Hi,
the /var/log/httpd/ directory is empty...
maybe the logs are located somewhere else?

Try running the commands below. Maybe you will get output that can help diagnose the problem.
Code:
#/etc/init.d/httpd start

Are you able to ping 127.0.0.1??
if not, stop Firewall and re-try this
otherwise
GO for an re-install of httpd,
and retry this.

ALL the best
